Location:
Allouette Lake is loacted in the Fraser Valley near Vancouver, BC,
only 13 km. (8.1 mi.) northeast of the town of Maple
Ridge. Located within Golden
Ears Provincial Park, access is paved and well marked. Although
a haven for fishers, the Allouette Lake area, with spectacular scenery
of lakes, mountains and rivers, provides many recreational opportunities
for the outdoor enthusiast.
Resorts
& Campsites:
Golden Ears Provincial Park provides excellent camping and picnicking
facilities in a number of areas. Boat launch areas are available
at Allouette Lake. With heavy summer use it is advisable to arrive
early for campsites, or use the reservation service offered by the
Ministry of the Environment's BC Parks Branch. 205 campsites are
trailer and RV accessible, a sani-station and no hookups. Pit and
flush toilets are available in the camp and day use areas. The day
use area, complete with change house and picnic areas, has a large
sandy beach with a wonderful swimming area. Surrounding trails draw
hikers, bikers and horseback riders.

Fishing
Report: Up to and including 2006 there has been an annual
stocking program of both yearling and catchable Cutthroat and Rainbow
Trout. In 2007, 6800 non-reproductive Rainbow triploids were stocked
into Allouette Lake. Although the population of fish is significant,
the large size and the great depth of Allouette Lake make sure there
is not a large number caught. Rainbow average about 1 lb. and Cutthroat
can average 1 to 1-1/2 lbs. Lake Char can reach 20 lbs. or better.
The steep drop off of the lake makes finding a good fishing spot
difficult and the shallow end that would be good for fishing is
heavily used with the campsites and picnic areas. The many bays
and streams and the shoreline would probably produce the best results.

Allouette Lake was formed when a dam was built for a hydro project.
The 15 km. (9.3 mi.) lake is nestled amongst rugged, steep mountains
primarily covered by a conifer forest. The spectacular scenery can
be found throughout Golden Ears Provincial Park.
Shoreline:
The varied lakeshore can range from enticing sandy estuaries to
sheer rock bluffs. Magnificient streams plunge down the surrounding
mountains into the lake. The south end of the lake provides about
the only shallow area suitable for a beach. There are large numbers
of submerged stumps around the southeast shore. There are no aquatic
plants growing in this lake because of its low nutrient availability.

Mike Lake: Mike Lake with a surface area of 4 ha. (10
ac.) is located approximately 4 km. (2.5 mi.) southwest of Allouette.
It is stocked annually with Rainbows and supports good numbers of
small trout.
